Gus M. Kaipat’s film career began as Assistant Producer on the critically acclaimed documentary Lieweila: Navigators’ Children, which was produced and directed by his sister, Cinta Matagolai Kaipat, and Dr. Beret E. Strong. During the making of Lieweila, Mr. Kaipat conducted interviews, organized on-site location shoots, and worked behind the camera as an Additional Videographer.

Mr. Kaipat received his AA degree in Liberal Arts Studies from the Northern Marianas College in 1989. His professional experience includes work as the Marketing Assistant for the Marianas Visitors Authority, where he worked with several major airline companies and hotel chains to bring commercial media groups from Asia, Australia, Europe, and the U.S. to the CNMI. While working for Pacifica Magazine (Continental Airline's in flight magazine), famous freelance photographer Paul Chesley gave Mr. Kaipat a ringing endorsement as “one of the best film guides in the region.”

Currently, Mr. Kaipat works for the Commonwealth Law Revision Commission, where he was promoted from Publications Clerk to his current position as Executive Assistant. He is also a well-known local musician and recording artist from the Commonwealth. Mr. Kaipat’s voice can be heard throughout Lieweila as the lead vocalist on the film’s soundtrack, which he recorded with two of his brothers and two cousins. The Lieweila soundtrack has won critical praise from critics and general audiences alike.
